The Cinémathèque suisse manages an extensive collection of film and pre-cinema equipment and technology (around 3,700 objects), from 19th-century optical toys to digital cameras and projectors from the 2010s. These objects are currently stored at a depository in Schlierbach, in the canton of Lucerne.
In autumn 2023, the Cinémathèque suisse acquired the complete Bolex collection, following the signing of a donation agreement with Fondation Bolex-Oulevay. This collection represents a valuable heritage that attests to the technical and industrial history of northern Vaud. The international distribution of film equipment produced in this region played a significant role in the global development of film production.
