Born in 1934 in Payerne, Jacques Chessex was one of the most important Swiss writers of our time before he died in 2009 in Yverdon-les-Bains. Three of his novels have been adapted for the silver screen: L’Ogre [The Ogre (Simon Edelstein, 1986)], La Confession du Pasteur Burg (Jean-Jacques Lagrange, 1992) and Un Juif pour l’exemple [A Jew Must Die (Jacob Berger, 2016)]. The Cinémathèque suisse, under the auspices of its director, Freddy Buache, organised an evening in his honour in the 1990s at the Casino de Montbenon.
