The Cinémathèque suisse and Radio Télévision Suisse released a selection of films centred around Expo 64 for the 50th anniversary of the national exposition. The DVD box set, divided into themed chapters, combines the archives of the Swiss Ciné-Journal and television reports in a fascinating way. The films are not only for the nostalgic longing to cross Vidy by monorail, climb to the top of the Spiral tower or dive into the depths of Lake Geneva on board a mesoscaphe. Against the backdrop of the national exhibition, the whole atmosphere of an era comes to the fore as supporters of an unchanging national order engage in debate with spokespeople of a more rebellious Switzerland, foreshadowing May ’68. A richly illustrated 72-page booklet completes the box set.
